What is a Mechatronics Technician?
Mechatronics Technicians are experts in mechanical, electrical and electronic components and how they work together in complex systems. Mechatronics Technicians can hold a variety of positions at manufacturing companies, from maintaining automation technology to building and servicing complex machinery.
What are the Daily Duties of a Mechatronics Technician?
Mechatronics Technicians build, install, and test mechanical and electrical systems used in modern, automated industrial processes. They are responsible for analyzing what the finished system is supposed to do and how the parts will interact. Mechatronics Technicians ensure the finished system is working perfectly, by carefully examining their work with technical diagnostic and measuring devices. They also oversee maintaining and repairing existing systems as needed, and if an error occurs, they are responsible for identifying the error and making the necessary repairs.
What Types of Skills Make a Mechatronics Technician Successful?
Successful Mechatronics Technicians can think conceptually and logically to understand the electromechanical systems and programming. They are effective in detecting and systematically troubleshooting any issues that may arise in manufacturing systems. They are detail and safety-oriented with strong communication skills. Technical skills include metal fabrication and assembly, working with pneumatic and hydraulic systems, electrical wiring, PLC programming, software debugging, and related skills.
What Will You Learn During Your Apprenticeship?
- Set up, troubleshoot and repair mechanics, pneumatics and hydraulics

Your Technical and Personal Qualifications
Duration of training: 3 years, plus 2 years employment guaranteed
Required school certificate: High school diploma or equivalent

Application period:
Applications for the start of training in August 2025 are now open. College coursework starts with the fall or spring semester schedule, but applicants are encouraged to reach out at any time. Applicants must pass a college entrance exam and be eligible to work in the United States.
